Dear, Lovely, Fantastic Readers. I see you there, peeking at my site, knowing your out there waiting for some word....well, here it is. It's been a busy past few months. Lots of ups and downs, downs outnumbering the ups at many times, but we all know that leads to better writing sometimes, am I right?
But today, on this dreary, cold, damp, dark day I've spent a good chunk of it writing. It's been a long time, and I desperately needed to go back and visit this old friend that I am sad to say I abandoned for some time. I just haven't had it in me. Inspiration was lacking and self doubt had set in. Why bother? Why bother when there were more pressing issues at hand. But, art doesn't work that way. I don't write to please, to gain, for self worth or ego. I write because I have to. I write because it soothes my soul to live another life, to dream through my characters eyes and see through their words. In simple terms, I write because I enjoy it. And, I don't ever want to forget that. How about a little more of the newest book??? Well, lucky you.... Here it is!
An hour passed by as they finished filling the bucket, ready to take it back to the house. Filled to the brim with fresh peas which would serve as not only dinner tonight, but many more dinners throughout the year with the help of Kansas and Brigitte’s canning successes.
As they walked through the grove of apple trees, JD felt the first wollop on his head, like a baseball to the helmet.
“Shit,” JD moaned. “What the hell was that?”
David and Drew shrugged, unsure of what he spoke of. They had not seen anything. They took a few more steps.
“OUCH!” David thrust his hands to the top of his head, rubbing the bald spot where he was hit. “It raining?”
“I ain’t never felt rain like that,” JD mused as he was struck again. “What in the hell?”
They all looked above to the clear skies, not a cloud in site. Yet, the bombardment continued, hitting them fiercely from above when the crack of David’s glasses sent a cry of pain from the ground.
“Broken!” David cried. “They’s broken.”
The stifled giggles from the tree branches sent JD into a fury.
“You think this is funny, you assholes?” JD screamed at the top of his lungs, finally seeing two bodies come into view as they’re legs dangled from on the apple trees branches. “I’m gonna beat your asses when I get to you!”
“What in God’s green earth is going on out here?” Kansas Mullins wiped her hands on her apron as she ran down the steps of the old porch followed closely by Brigitte. Her hair pulled back from her face in a ponytail as it swung wildly behind her as she ran.
As always, dear friends....LOVE Much and Read Often! xoxo-JA
